Adopting A dog or Puppy from Project Dog

Adopting from Project Dog

At Project Dog, we are committed not only to rehabilitating and rehoming our dogs, but to finding a great match between each animal and their new family. We take into account the breed of the dog, the background, the temperament and personality, and try to find them the most suitable enviornment.
To adopt a puppy or dog from us, you will need to meet our criteria. This will include a face-to-face meeting with you, as well as an inspection of your home and property.  In order for us to find the “perfect match”, we ask you to complete the application form which can be downloaded from clicking on this link  application form, and e-mail this through to us. This will help us to understand a little bit about you, and in turn what type of dog would thrive within your home environment and lifestyle.
When you are approved to adopt and have chosen the furbaby who you wish to adopt, we ask only for a donation of R300 for the dog or puppy which you adopt, this goes towards the veterinary care and to keep us going to help more rescues in need.
All our adult dogs have been spayed / neutered and their vaccinations are up to date.
When you adopt a puppy you will sign an adoption contract, this stating that you agree to have the puppy spayed or neutered at 6 months of age. You will receive a welfare rate to do this, so that you do not pay the full price. All our puppies are vaccinated and dewormed before going to their forever homes.
If there is a specific puppy or dog that you’d like to adopt, or if you’d like to find out more about our adoption process, please contact Quicha on  083 272 7201 or Kim on 083 555 0111
You can also email Quicha or Kim on the E-mail addresses below:

Newest Additions: The bottle feeding puppies

To brighten up your Monday morning, we thought we would share with you some of our latest little bottle feeding rescues. So often, puppies are rescued and the mom dogs are nowhere in sight, or sometimes sadly the mom dogs pass away or are even unable to support their young and without the help of dedicated foster parents, we hate to think what would happen to the puppies. Pictured here, are the Project Dog's newest rescue puppies, being just 2 and a half weeks old at the moment, (German Shepherd mix puppies) they are being bottle fed by their very dedicated foster mom - who even takes the pups to work with her! That is just pure dedication and Love!!! Without our dedicated foster moms, we would not be able to help so many dogs and puppies in need.
Here are some lovely pictures of the latest additions, who will be up for adoption when they are 6 weeks old. Have a "Smile" and meet "Tucker, Tia and Tessa".

Being a foster mom to rescue dogs

My life as a foster mom started shortly after I adopted my very first rescue dog from this amazing organisation. (roughly over a year ago now)
After days (and months!) of begging my parents to allow me to foster they finally said YES!

Our first foster was with us for a few short months - and we almost had foster failure! which is when a foster mom adopts the doggy that they have been fostering, luckily the gorgeous girl named Zara got a home before we could have foster failure. (But secretly one day i am sure i will have a foster failure!)

What Fostering entails is that you are able to show love and open your home and heart to a rescue dog, for a certain amount of time (until their forever family comes along), who without you, would sadly have to wait in kennels for their forever home.

As I have been asked many times before about how am i able to do this, i am sure every foster mom will agree, It is by no means easy, as you can imagine the heartache when the dog has to leave your home and go off to their new forever homes, but it is the love for the dog and the love for fostering that makes it easier, I think, for every dog and puppy i have fostered, i have shed some tears when they were gone, however what makes the process amazing is that you are able to meet and see the families who adopt the rescues, and see the love they have for the dog that they would like to adopt and it just seems to warm my heart when i have experienced this, You are also able to see updates of how the dogs and puppies have settled in their new homes with their forever families which makes fostering worth it! Knowing that when one is adopted, i would be able to help another dog in need also makes the process worthwhile. At the end of the day, you are helping to save a life and that means so much to that doggie that you are able to help.

On some occassions I have been lucky enough to visit some of my previous fosters, and just to see how wonderfully they have grown up, really makes me want to foster even more. To think if all foster homes and kennels were full then there wouldn't be space for more rescues who need people like Project Dog, So i hope by writing this blog, that you feel encouraged to open your heart and home to a foster doggy or puppy.

Knowing that you are able to make even a small difference in a rescue dogs life, by fostering, is a reward in itself!

Being able to be a part of the amazing journey, day by day, is amazing and a true blessing.

I have been able to work with many different types of dogs because of fostering, and have been able to learn how to understand them and each one is different, all with their very own personalities.

Project Dog is always in need of foster homes, so if you would like to open your heart and home to a rescue for a period of time until they find a permanent home, please call Quicha on 083 272 7201 or Kim on 083 555 0111. Food and bedding is provided, and all medical costs covered for the doggie that you foster.

ALL ABOUT PROJECT DOG DURBAN

Welcome

WHAT WE DO
Essentially, we at Project Dog are just like you. Ordinary people who are crazy about dogs and want to help in any way we can.
Helping out with the care of the rescued animals is a very small but committed network of foster homes. Our volunteers work with extremely limited resources and whilst they do their very best for the many animals in need, we simply can’t help them all. For this reason, we work mainly with abandoned or abused animals and are not always able to assist with re-homing of pets. It also means that we re-home only in those greater Durban areas which have a dedicated volunteer. And that it sometimes takes us a little longer than we’d like to answer calls, respond to e-mails and tend to the mountain of administration that comes with animal rescue. We’re doing the very best we can with what we have, so we ask you to please keep this in mind and to be a little patient with us!
Each of our pups are inoculated and dewormed, and we ask only for an adoption fee of R300.00 to contribute towards vaccination and veterinary costs (or sterilisation if the dog is old enough). It goes without saying that any additional donations are put to very good use, and allow us to help more animals in need.
We focus strongly on the sterilization of dogs, ensuring that each female dog is spayed before they are homed, or if they are too young, an adoption contract is signed by the new owners agreeing that the puppy will be spayed at 6 months. We believe that this is vital in the prevention of unwanted litters which so often leads to the neglect and abuse of animals.
Please feel free to browse our site, see some of the lovely pups and dogs looking for homes, or visit our happy endings section to see just how many dogs have been given a fresh start in loving homes. If you’re looking to adopt a puppy or dog, you’ll find information on the adoption process and the requirements for adopting from Project Dog. Or if you’d like to help out, we have loads of information on that too!
Thank you from all of us and our furry friends.
